Unexpected

Expect the unexpected when it comes to raising kids. You never know what will happen. There are times when you are so happy and thrilled for their achievements. Then there are times, where you want to help them because they are sad or disappointed. The best thing we can do when they are disappointed are sad it to let them figure out the lesson in it. That is the best teacher of all.

When my son forgot his homework at home, and had his teacher call to request that we bring it to school. My response was that I wanted him to feel a little discomfort, because he forgot to make sure it was in his back pack before leaving. Teach him a little responsibility.

I don’t want my kids to suffer needlessly. However, doing everything for them is not that answer. I do like to get them a meal and something to drink at the dinner table. They know they have to clear their plates. They know where to get more water if they want it. They also get to do the dishes.

There are times when I am amazed at what they will do. They can excel at school on their own, without me prompting them. My daughter just got an award for doing extra math. I hope they see me trying to achieve all of my goals and excelling at them, so they realize they can do what they set out to do. Expect the unexpected. Something quite pleasant can turn up.
