Work and Kids

You can’t have both. You need to set boundaries. There is no work-life balance. Either you are working or you are leading your kids. You can try to convince yourself that you are spending time with your kids while they surf the internet and you are at your computer. You are not actively listening to them. They become something in the background, as you focus on what you want to achieve. You tell them just a few more minutes. They interrupt you and want to get  your attention. They demand your attention. There cannot be focus and concentration on your work with attention on your kids and their needs.

They want you. They don’t want some empty shell of you. Even if you are working your tail off. They want you. They don’t care about the end result. All they know is that they want Mom or Dad. That is all they know.  When you are with your kids, it is best to put down the cell phone, tablet, lap top, book, and or calendar.

I have seen parents immersed in their phones at a birthday party. They constantly check the phone. It is sad. It can be addictive. Choose one at a time. You can’t have both.
