We did not wait until midnight. We made sure the night was special. There were horns blown. Confetti was thrown. Little fire works were popped. They were happy to celebrate. They asked why do we celebrate a new year. I told them that it was fun to bring a new year in. Out with the old and in with the new.
When we ring in the new year it a chance to think about new opportunities. What do we want to accomplish in the new year? It is a chance for reflection. There were times when we lost those we loved. We missed opportunities. We did not take some chances. There were birthdays and holidays to celebrate as well.
When we celebrate, we are thankful for what we have and have gone through. We can look forward to new things and new ideas. We can plan our next steps. There can be a renewal of the mind. With the kids it can mark a time when they move on to a new year and end up in a new grade.
