The kids wanted a new pet. They were really excited to get an new cat. They were motivated to help out just so they could get a new pet. They were really looking forward to it. It is an adjustment. We lost our first cat. They begged us to get a new pet. We met new people and we had new adventures. It took a little getting used to. Change is never easy. It is necessary.
The kids are happy to make a new friend. You may not see a pet as a new friend. They can be a good friend. They don’t talk back. You may see a little personality in them. They are companions. Kids and pets can have a great relationship. Teaching kids how to take care of their friends is a good thing to do. If they see their pets as friends, they can transfer the skills they learn into other relationships. Also, teaching kids that not everyone is the same and that change is inevitable is key. It also teaches them to rank what they do. They know that they can help the pets when they can. They also see that pets respond differently to them. It teaches the kids compassion and caring. Hopefully they can take what they learn and make new friends.
