Homework

Getting the kids to do their homework, takes discipline. I get to be involved in having them work on it. If I don’t sit down with them they are not able to focus on doing it and getting it done. It also takes patience. Right now, they should be doing their homework, but they are outside playing. I think it is ok. I am working on something else and they are letting out some of their energy. Being in school all day is tough. When they get off that bus, it is as if someone wound them up like a top. They come spinning home and whirl their backpacks down.

It takes constant checking in on them. I have to find ways to motivate them. They will be motivated if they have a say in what the reward will be. It is easy to get them to do what is needed with the right incentive. Sometimes the incentive can be for me to listen to them or ask for their assistance in doing something they choose. For example this can be watching a movie or making brownies or cookies. We enjoy spending time together and I can teach them many other lessons at the same time.
