How to Be Cool AKA an Influence

Do you feel uncool? This Is what I wish I would have know at the age of thirteen – as a decidedly uncool person. That was an awkward time. Even then I knew I liked writing. Someone recently told me I was cool. This is for my friend. There are many ways to be cool and  here are just a few.

1) Be authentically you. Figure out what you love in your life, and pursue that. You don’t have to fit in to be cool. You can even make your own group. We all want to belong. Do you like kick boxing? Do you like playing video games? Do you like looking at art? Do yo like history? Do yo love bingo? Become an expert in the areas you love. People who have lots of interests are not boring.

2) Don’t care about what others think of you. Yes, mind your manners and follow the law. Resistance will come up when you are trying to blaze your own trail. There will be others that think you can’t do something. There will be people who will try to convince you that there way is the right way.

3) Do what you say you are going to do. Did you promise to call your friend? Then do it. Did you say you would be there? Then show up. Did you say you would accomplish something? Then do what it takes to make it happen.

4) Do you get results? It is one thing to have a list of tasks that you write down and accomplish – but did you get the results you wanted?

5) Love on people. You can’t get anywhere in life without the help of others. Try not to offend others. Apologize and admit it when you make mistakes. Show them how much you care. People who are sincere and genuine are more likable. It is refreshing being around people who have a genuine concern for you.

6) Use your imagination. Set your own trends. Be open to new ideas. People who are open to new ideas and creative have an air about them that is not pretentious.

7) Stay positive. No one like to be around someone who is gloomy all the time. No more brooding. Don’t complain about anything. Show gratitude. What you appreciate expands.

8) Have a vision. What do you want out of life? Where are you going? What do you want out of life?

9) Don’t be afraid to experiment. Change things up. Do you have the same old routine? Do you where the same clothes? Do you have the same hairstyle? Do you go to the same restaurants?

10) Focus. What areas of life do you want to change? How are you going to change those areas?

11) Never stop learning. Improve your mind. Take a class in something that interests you. Learn a new skill or language. The more you know – the more information you can apply.

12) Be willing to change. Don’t let trivial matters, circumstances, or obstacles cause you to lose your sight of your goals.

13) Build relationships. Ask questions. Be curious about peop0le and the world. Have empathy for others. Give sincere compliments.

14) Watch your appearance. Do you dress in pieces that are comfortable? Do you have classic pieces that you can accessorize? Do you have some unique pieces that show off your creative side?  You don’t have to follow fashion trends. Just have a few quality pieces and some accessories that show off your own particular stamp.

Being cool is not about following the crowd. It is about being the best you can be and making a difference in the lives of others. If you are a positive influence in the lives of others you will be cool to them, because you are unique. That it why I love writing.
